Story of our Title

Not For Nothing, but Not For Nothing was not the original title to this film.

Like many films, Not For Nothing, took a few years to earn its name. At first, it was just a baby script, and that's all it was ever supposed to be. We named it SOUTHSIDE, referring to the setting that the story takes place in - the southside of Philadelphia (City).

The following year the Eagles won the Superbowl for the first time in History. The next day, one of the Eagles spoke at the parade dressed up like a mummer, and he yelled about how one of his coaches told the players that hungry dogs run faster and that the eagles were hungry dogs and that's why they won and he was clearly jacked up out of his cork on cocaine and it was amazing to watch. So then we renamed it HUNGRY DOGS.

People liked that title but we did have to explain the origin too often. As we got deeper into rewrites, we began to discover the fascinating depth that the story was revealing about our characters. This was not just any ordinary, run of the mill, revenge crime drama. This was a unique story about a group of men ready to die for justice. That's when the final title, NOT FOR NOTHING, was born.

We realized some people live their entire lives and die one day and it was all for nothing. This was a story about a few guys who decide to risk it all, but not for nothing. This film is kinda like Do The Right Thing meets Goodfellas. Not a bad combo. We are currently working on writing the sequel which is entitled, The Windup. NFN#2.
